The 10th SATMA Awards annual event returns to KwaZulu-Natal Province with a punch this year – 2015. With uMhlathuze and uThungulu Municipalities as official hosts, the awards will be held at UniZulu’s King Bhekuzulu Hall – eMpangeni on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2015.
SATMA Awards are proud to announce its list of international guests for the 2015 Ceremony. They are Mama Sarah Obama – grandmother to President Barack Obama from Kenya, Samia Nkrumah – daughter of President Kwame Nkrumah from Ghana and Ilyasah Shabazz from the US – daughter of El-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, otherwise known as Malcolm X.
The announcement was first made in Los Angeles – USA, on September 5th, by Ukhozi FM and Umhlobo Wenene FM during their live broadcasts. SATMA Awards Founder, Dr. Dumisani Goba made this announcement with the CEO of the National Heritage Council of South Africa, Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa, SABC Radio Group CEO Mr. Leslie Ntloko who were all part of SATMA Awards’ Annual Tour – SIYABALANDA Campaign.
SATMA Awards has previously honored Malcom X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rev Jesse Jackson, Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Biko, OR Tambo,Inkosi Albert Luthulu, Nkwame Nkrumah and Patrice Lumumba, to name a few.
Our 3 guests will arrive at Richards Bay Airport on the 29th of September, and will be welcomed by a number of South African officials with a cultural extravaganza.
SATMA Awards – 2015 will be honoring Mama Sarah Obama, for the work she does in Kenya to improve the lives of her people, especially the children. The daughters of the two legends, Malcolm X and Kwame Nkrumah, will also be standing on behalf of their heroic fathers, whose contribution to the African struggle is immense. SATMA Awards shall also honor other African leaders which shall be announced on the day of the awards
The itinerary includes a Red Carpet Celebration welcoming the 3 international guests in Hibiscus (Port Shepstone) – south coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal on September 30th. The Office of the Premier – Office on the Status of Women will also host a Women’s Dinner in honor of our international guests. The 2nd of October will feature Indigenous Comedy and music at King Bhekuzulu Hall. The 03rd of October (day of the main event) will feature an outside Public Viewing Festival with estimated 20 000 people in attendance, and the main event at Bhukuzulu Hall. Both events will have a plethora of music: Hip Hop and Maskandi performances along with unique collaborations of different ethnic groups
SATMA Awards upholds “I Am an African” as its 2015 theme, honoring artists and achievers who have made the most impact in the South African music industry and social/political life in Africa and the Diaspora.
“This also means a lot for our SA tourism as well as the economy of our KZN Province, as thousands of people will flock to the City of uMhlathuze to witness the 10th annual celebrations,” Dr. Goba concluded.
