The Seventh Annual SATMA Awards

The seventh annual SATMA Awards will take place for the first time in the Eastern Cape at the East London (ICC) on Saturday, 27 October. SABC is a media partner of this event themed, ‘My culture, your culture, one nation and all roads lead to the Eastern Cape’.

promote, preserve, uplift, develop, stage multicultural exchanges, honour and award traditional musicians across racial and ethnic background.SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago says “The SABC is indeed proud to be a media partner for the 7th SATMA Awards. We welcome the opportunity to support the awards that helps us to deliver on our mandate and to provide entertainment to our viewers and listeners. Given the reach of the SABC, and its dominance of the media landscape, we have to use our resources to educate, inform and entertain. Our involvement with the SATMA Awards is also based on the fact that we want to continue to promote South African Music and support and celebrate local talent. The SABC will, through its various Radio Stations and TV platforms support the SATMA Awards.”The CEO of the SATMA Awards, Sabelo Silinga, says “the SATMA Awards have made a tremendous contribution in the cultural landscape of South Africa through nation building, social cohesion and promoting South African Traditional Music. The 7th annual SATMA Awards at the ICC in (East London), will further attest the richness of South African cultural diversity and the role the SATMA’S have played in restoring and promoting South African Traditional music and nurturing local talent”.

The Red Carpet will start at 17:30 with the official Award Ceremony starting at 19:00 withperformances by some of the SATMA Awards nominees and icons and legends of traditional music.

SABC will support the SATMA Awards as follows:

Umhlobo Wenene FM and Tru FM will do Live Broadcasts and Live Crossings from the East London (ICC) on the Saturday, 27 October. There will be live crossings by all SABC radio stations to Umhlobo Wenene and Tru fm for an update on the day of the SATMA Awards event.

SATMA Awards winners will be interviewed during and post Award Ceremony by SABC radio stations relevant to the winners. For example, Best Ndebele Album winner will be interviewed by Ikwekwezi FM.

Meanwhile, Selimathunzi on SABC1 will do the red carpet on Saturday, 27 October and ROOTS will do the insert which will be broadcast later.

SABC1 will broadcast the SATMA Awards on Saturday, 10 November at 22:00.
