Local group Kopano Ke Matla is ecstatic about their win at the South African Traditional Music Awards
THE local traditional group that won the best traditional group award at the South African Traditional Music Awards at the weekend say they are “over the moon”. Members of Kopano Ke Matla said that for them just the nomination was good but winning a category was the cherry on top and they will never let up on what they are doing.
The group is based in Jouberton, Klerksdorp, in North West. The national event took place at Richards Bay in Kwazulu-Natal. Other North West artists and groups which were nominated in different categories
were Quincy K for best African jazz and the Diragammu cultural group for best SeTswana.
David Leshomo, who was nominated for best praise singer, also performed at the ceremony. Kopano Ke Matla manager Tshepiso Modisadife said “I would like to thank the community of Dr Kenneth Kaunda, the parents of our artists and the fans at large for voting us to get success.
“We are not forgetting the media that played an important role including radio stations which played our
songs and newspapers that wrote our stories.”
Modisadife said team work and commitment were contributing factors behind their success. “Our artists are so disciplined and it is also because we work together with their parents.
“We have a strong team and we always commit ourselves, so that we can reach the goals. “So far our main challenges are the sponsors, but thanks again to those who are still behind us.
“We usually struggle for transport and finances to maintain some of our things at the group,” Modisadife said.
