14th SATMA Awards – Press Release
The SATMA Awards were founded in 2006, the largest traditional music awards and the only ‘one of its kind’ on the African continent.
The SATMAs continues its mandate of preserving South African heritage and the diverse cultures we hold as South Africans through promoting and developing traditional music across racial ethnic backgrounds.
The 14th SATMA Awards were hosted at Bokone Bophirima (North West Province) in Mahikeng, on the 27th – 28th September 2019 under the theme “Free to be me”.
The 14th SATMA Awards Launch was hosted by the Department of Sport, Culture and Recreation Limpopo. It took place in Limpopo on the 8th June 2019 at the Sun Meropa Casino.
A weekend of the 17th August 2019, the Announcement of Nominees for the 14th SATMA Awards took place at Emnotweni in Mbombela (Mpumalanga). The SATMA auditors Ngubane & Company declared the opening of votes at midnight of the 17th August closing, midnight of the 27th September 2019.
The SATMA Announcement of Nominees event was a success and was well attended by numerous local music legends, celebrities and all the SATMA stakeholders, namely: Department of Sport, Culture and Recreation North West team together with the HOD Ms N Bapela and the MEC Ms. Virginia Tlhape/ Department of Sport, Culture and Recreation Mpumalanga including the HOD Mr Godfrey Ntombela and team together with the MEC Ms. Ntjalintjali from Mpumalanga and the Department of Sport, Culture and Recreation team from Limpopo, The National Heritage Council, SABC, NLC, The National House of Traditional Leaders, the office of the Premier Ms. Refilwe Mutsweni from Mpumalanga including the Deputy Minister Ms. Nomalungelo Gina from Trade, Industry and Competitions, the Founder of the SATMA Awards, Dr Dumisani Goba, GCOO of G4 Brothers Mr Paul Nzimande, the CEO of the Supa-Vite Ms. Zandile Ndzimande, CEO-SATMA Awards Mr. Jason Faber and all the SATMA team with many more SATMA Awards delegates unmentioned.
Everyone in attendance at the SATMA 2019 Announcement of Nominees event was entertained by an array of top local music icons and artists, who made the event exceptional, that will not soon be forgotten, and the entertainment included the likes of:
- Dr Nothembi Mkhwebane
- Siphokazi
- Afro-Attraction
- Karabo
- Xolile Mabuza (The Poet) from Mpumalanga
- And local emerging artists and traditional groups from Mpumalanga
The Announcement of Nominees event was supported by numerous SABC Radio Stations and programs, such as Ligwalagwala FM, uMhlobo Wenene, Thobela FM, Phalaphala FM, Tru FM, Ikwekwezi FM and Munghana Lonene FM. In addition, the event was also supported by North West (PNW) On-Line, Ngwako TV, Edbook Online, Mpumalanga TV, University Paper, City Press, Sunday Times, Jozi FM and Masastic On-line to name a few.

The main event took place from the 27th September with SATMA Golf day and the 28th September’19 being the main award ceremony at the Mmabatho Convention Centre.
